First Rakat
﷽
وَإِلَٰهُكُمۡ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞۖ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
wa ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥid, lā ilāha illā huwa r-raḥmānu r-raḥīm. Al-Baqarah ( 2:163)
Your god is the One God, there is no god except Him, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
Second Rakat
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٞ مُّسۡتَقِيمٞ
Inna-Llāha rabbī wa rabbukum fa-ʿbudūh , hādhā ṣirāṭum-mustaqīm — Al Imrān(3:51)
Indeed Allah is my Lord and your Lord; so worship Him. This is a straight path.
Third Rakah
فَٱذۡكُرُونِيٓ أَذۡكُرۡكُمۡ وَٱشۡكُرُواْ لِي وَلَا تَكۡفُرُونِ
Fazkurooneee azkurkum washkuroo lee wa laa takfuroon — Al-Baqarah(2:152)
Then do ye remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not Faith.
Fourth Rakah
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱسۡتَعِينُواْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
Yaaa ayyuhal laazeena aamanus ta’eenoo bissabri was Salaah; innal laaha ma’as-saabireen — Al-Baqarah(2:153)
O ye who believe! seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for Allah is with those who patiently persevere.
Fifth Rakah
أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡفَجۡرِۖ إِنَّ قُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ كَانَ مَشۡهُودٗا
aqimi ṣ-ṣalāta li-dulūki sh-shamsi ilā ghasaqi l-layli wa qurʾāna l-fajri inna qurʾāna l-fajri kāna mashhūda — Al-Isra(17:78)
Maintain the prayer from the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and [observe particularly] the dawn recital. Indeed the dawn recital is attended [by angels].
Sixth Rakah
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ فَتَهَجَّدۡ بِهِۦ نَافِلَةٗ لَّكَ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَبۡعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامٗا مَّحۡمُودٗا
wa mina l-layli fa-tahajjad bihī nāfilatan laka ʿasā an yabʿathaka rabbuka maqāmam-maḥmūda — Al-Isra(17:79)
And keep vigil for a part of the night, as a supererogatory [devotion] for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station.
Seventh Rakah
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَدۡخِلۡنِي مُدۡخَلَ صِدۡقٖ وَأَخۡرِجۡنِي مُخۡرَجَ صِدۡقٖ وَٱجۡعَل لِّي مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلۡطَٰنٗا نَّصِيرٗا
wa qul rabbi adkhilnī mudkhala ṣidqin wa akhrijnī mukhraja ṣidqin wa jʿal lī min ladunka sulṭānan naṣīra — Al-Isra(17:80)
And say, ‘My Lord! ‘Admit me with a worthy entrance, and bring me out with a worthy departure, and render me a favourable authority from Yourself.’
Eighth Rakah
وَقُلۡ جَآءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ ٱلۡبَٰطِلُۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡبَٰطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقٗا
wa qul jāʾa l-ḥaqqu wa-zahaqa l-bāṭil , inna l-bāṭila kāna zahūqa — Al-Isra(17:81)
And say, ‘The truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed falsehood is bound to vanish.’
Ninth Rakah
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡغَيۡثَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا قَنَطُواْ وَيَنشُرُ رَحۡمَتَهُۥۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡوَلِيُّ ٱلۡحَمِيدُ
wa huwa-lladhī yunazzilu l-ghaytha min baʿdi mā qanaṭū wa yanshuru raḥmatahu, wa huwa l-waliyyu l-ḥamīd — Ash-Shūrā(42:28)
It is He who sends down the rain after they have been despondent, and unfolds His mercy, and He is the Guardian, the All-laudable.
Tenth Rakah
فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْۚ وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
fa-quṭiʿa dābiru l-qawmi-lladhīna ẓalamū wa l-ḥamdu li-Llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn — Al-An’am(6:45)
Thus the wrongdoing lot were rooted out, and all praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
Eleventh Rakah
فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ
fa-taʿāl-Llāhu l-maliku l-ḥaqqu, lā ilāha illā huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-karīm. — Al-Muminun(23:116)
So exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign, there is no god except Him, the Lord of the Noble Throne.
Twelveth Rakah
فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةٗ كَٱلدِّهَانِ
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
fa-idhā nshaqqati s-samāʾu fa-kānat wardatan ka-d-dihān, — AR-Rahman(55:37)
fa-bi-ayyi ālāʾi rabbikumā tukadhdhibān — AR-Rahman(55:38)
When the sky is split open, and turns crimson like tanned leather.
So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?
Thirteenth Rakah
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٞ وَلَا جَآنّٞ
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
fa-yawmaʾidhin lā yusʾalu ʿan dhanbihī insun wa lā jānn, — AR-Rahman(55:39)
fa-bi-ayyi ālāʾi rabbikumā tukadhdhibān — AR-Rahman(55:40)
On that day neither humans will be questioned about their sins nor jinn.
So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?
Fourteenth Rakah
يُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمۡ فَيُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِي وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
yuʿrafu l-mujrimūna bi-sīmāhum fa-yuʾkhadhu bi-n-nawāṣī wa l-ʾaqdām, — AR-Rahman(55:41)
fa-bi-ayyi ālāʾi rabbikumā tukadhdhibān — AR-Rahman(55:42)
The guilty will be recognized by their mark; so they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?
fifteenth Rakah
هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِي يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ
يَطُوفُونَ بَيۡنَهَا وَبَيۡنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٖ
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
hādhihī jahannamu-llatī yukadhdhibu bihā l-mujrimūn, — AR-Rahman(55:43)
yaṭūfūna baynahā wa-bayna ḥamīmin ān, — AR-Rahman(55:44)
fa-bi-ayyi ālāʾi rabbikumā tukadhdhibān — AR-Rahman(55:45)
This is the hell which the guilty would deny!
They shall circuit between it and boiling hot water.
So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?
Sixteenth Rakah
وَٱصۡبِرۡ وَمَا صَبۡرُكَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِۚ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا تَكُ فِي ضَيۡقٖ مِّمَّا يَمۡكُرُونَ
wa-ṣbir wa mā ṣabruka illā bi-Llāhi wa lā taḥzan ʿalayhim wa lā taku fī ḍayqin mimmā yamkurūn — Al-Naḥl(16:127)
So be patient, and you cannot be patient except with Allah[’s help]. And do not grieve for them, nor be upset by their guile.
Seventeenth Rakah
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَواْ وَّٱلَّذِينَ هُم مُّحۡسِنُونَ
inna-Llāha maʿa lladhīna-t-taqaw wa-lladhīna hum muḥsinūn — Al-Naḥl(16:128)
Indeed Allah is with those who are Godwary and those who are virtuous.
Eighteenth Rakah
رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡنِي مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِيۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلۡ دُعَآءِ
rabbi jʿalnī muqīma ṣ-ṣalāti wa min dhurriyyatī, rabbanā wa-taqabbal duʿāʾ — Ibrahim (14:40)
My Lord! Make me a maintainer of the prayer, and my descendants [too]. Our Lord, accept my supplication.
Nineteenth Rakah
رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلۡحِسَابُ
rabbanā ghfir-lī wa-li-wālidayya wa li-l-muʾminīna yawma yaqūmu l-ḥisāb — Ibrahim (14:41)
Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and all the faithful, on the day when the reckoning is held.

This is a selection of Ayats from a specific night of Ramadan of a few decades ago, a recording of which is currently accessible here. This sequence of Ayats is very beautiful and meaningful. They are not twenty but nineteen, because (6:45) is recited twice. May Allah SWT protect and guide us all, give us physical and spiritual health, keep us in good company, and grant us a good ending.
